Welcome to the JPix No 2,
The 2nd Jewish Photo Carnival

In beginning JPix carnival no 2, I have to say I'm quite over whelmed how many submissions this carnival has received to date. Its fairly obvious that there is a demand and need to have a Jewish Photo carnival.

Mixing it up!

This particular JPIx carnival, JPIX 2 , I'm going to try a slightly different format. Heck the Carnivals only 2 editions old, and I'd be surprised if you didn't see a lot more variations in the presentation of Photos and content.

Want to Host?

There's still a vacancy for the hosting of JPix 5,
Batya from Me-ander and Shiloh Musings is the Host for the next JPix 3,
Chaim from Life of Rubin is the host for JPix 4 .

If anyone has ever done a Haveil Havalim, Kosher Cooking Carnival, or other type of carnival then you'll be the first to agree hosting a carnival is quite a bit of work.

Yet in hosting a carnival you gain many things which aren't immediately obvious.

These include a huge increase in traffic, blog links to your blog, getting known by the Community and certainly not the least getting to know other fellow Jews and their blogs.

This isn't a definitive list of the benefits of hosting a carnival, but whilst JPix Carnival is a community carnival, those that host it aren't totally un rewarded.

Finally, I must say and state the obvious a carnival is only as good as the people and submissions they send; and the future for JPIx is looking fantastic, without any more speeches lets get right into it.

First of I'd like to draw attention to Joshua who has the Blog Josh's Photos, Josh submitted a stunning photo last month called leaping upon the mountains but the very day I posted the first JPix carnival his blog had a problem and he missed out on the link, his photos are stunning and that's why I've featured Ramon Crater as the featured image for JPix 2.

Josh has some amazing photos of Mount Hermon posted on his blog.

Batya's been busy snapping photos, [although she is still being all thumbs on the new camera phone] she sent in this photo essay of a wintery day's walk, Not quite what I had planned...

Seems she's been me-andering around the neighborhood and through rain, hail, thunder and lightening. Batya seems to have gone Snappy mad, taking so many pictures from the International Book Fair, one could think she forgot what book fairs are for, with all the Photos she took.

But considering she's the proud author of Chapter 18 of the new book Hide and Seek which she proudly holds stating I was there! Where were you? we understand her usual large dose enthusiasm

Yisrael provided me with another picture Vale of Shiloh which was a large expansive picture of the Shiloh Valley, unfortunately I couldn't find it on My Right Word so I have uploaded it to photo hosting, and by clicking on the small picture you can see it.

Most of you will be aware of the importance of Shiloh in Judaism, but some may not be aware of the amazing mosaics which have been recently found in areas surrounding Shiloh. These archaeological treasures may 'never' have existed if Israelis hadn't become aware of them. Anyway I'll let someone far more qualified take you on this journey of Mosaic treasures.

Sights, Out and About

What else would you do when near Zion Square than go eating out Kosher, it seems Batya has had the busiest fortnight I've ever seen. There certainly wasn't a lack of colorful characters from her vantage point whilst eating her meal, the sunset on the way home looks breathtaking.

Her thumbs are back as she discovers her new mobile phone doesn't do some things her old phone did. Barely sleeping due to the worry of knowing if her new phone alarm would go off automatically like her old one. A restless sleep, hours fly by, and the new day dawns .

..In a more serious event he reports,in his post believe the road is fixed, that a major leaking main took over a week to fix in Baltimore , the only good coming from it were a couple of nice photos courtesy of SoccerDad.

Ya'aqov from Esser Agaroth pointed out this Jewish blogger, Jewish Nation whom I'm sure a few of you will have never come across. It seems Emanuel is quite a talented if not sporadic photographer. Check out Lost Quarter , which is a brief photoessay of Barcelona's Jewish Quarter.

Its a beautiful photo of the most iridescent greens, the detaill is amazing.

Mottels photo of Venezia and World Peace is very evocative of the past gone by, it seems to capture the essence of time passing, as though it is paradoxically a time lapse camera .

Mottel from Letters of Thought submitted the photo under Travel, but personally its such an exceptional photo, I have placed it in the Art category.

There's something about the genre of black & white photography, I'm sure its more than the sense of age it conveys, its the tonal depth, contrast and its ability to pick up and accentuate images that in color would be rather more bland and less enlightening.

In black aand white nuances are seen, a perfect example is A Simple Jews Black and White picture of the Week, Within a Puddle, a beautiful photo, and an evocative title.

Snoopy the Goon from SImply Jews shows us his not the only one feeling cold with Winter misery, wet nuts. Make sure you click on the smaller blogger picture to see the larger more detailed image.

Fun with Photos

The irrepressible Yid with Lid approached Bagelblogger asking if 'manipulated photos' could have a place on JPix, being a fan of Photographic satire myself, I could see no reason why not.

So it is with amusement that we view Yid with Lid's submission Mr President, Stop Buying Abbas' Snake Oil

I must admit Bagelblogger enjoys manipulating photos, and one I only did today is a deliberately obscure Miss Piggy.

I'm sure Yid's idea of a section for manipulated photos will become a very popular submission category in the future.

[#] Submitting Photos for non bloggers!

Not every one has a blog, and due to this some readers generaly miss out when it comes to participating in Carnivals. I had an enquiry related to this and, so in the interest of providing access to other Jews who aren't so computer savy or just plain well don't have blogs, I've established a Photo hosting account , JPixcarnival photo hosting where seperate files of photos can be submitted and displayed on JPix.

Now its quite some work, so if you do have a blog use your blog to display your photos, but if you know some one who would like to share there photos with the greater Jewish community then there is that opition now available.
